Teenager shot in leg during 'targeted attack' in Birmingham
The incident on Monday morning comes after a spate of shootings in the city.
A man has been shot in the leg in what police are treating as a targeted attack.
The 18-year-old victim was found wounded in Thorp Street in Birmingham near the popular Hippodrome Theatre just after 4.10am on Monday.
West Midlands Police said the man's injuries were non-life threatening and he was in a stable condition in hospital.
Inspector Christian Wilkins, from West Midlands Police, said: "We believe this to be a targeted attack and fortunately the man's injuries are not life threatening.
"We have conducted a detailed forensic search of the area, Thorp Street at Hurst Street and Bristol Street will remain closed this morning as part of the investigation."
Separately on Friday night, police were called to reports of a gunshot in the Lozells area of the city.
In January West Midlands' chief constable David Thompson said that shootings were happening in Birmingham with "concerning regularity".
Two months ago, in an update to members of the force's police and crime board Mr Thompson said the problem had "not gone away" despite a crackdown, and several high-profile convictions through the courts.
In March, 18-year-old Kenichi Phillips became the fourth person to be shot dead in Birmingham inside six months.
It followed the killing of 19-year-old Connor Smith in Hawkesley on October 8 2015 and, later that month, 25-year-old Derek Junior Myers who was shot dead in Soho Hill, Hockley.
In February this year, businessman Akhtar Javeed was gunned down at his business premises in the Digbeth area of the city.
Two men were jailed at Birmingham Crown Court earlier this year for their part in Smith's killing.
