Footballer, 13, 'saved two lives' donating organs after death
Over £10,000 has been raised after Kieran McDade suffered a cardiac arrest at training.
The sister of a young footballer who died after collapsing at a training session has revealed he "saved two people's lives" by donating some of his organs.
Kieran McDade suffered a cardiac arrest during a warm-up at Dunbeth Park in Coatbridge, North Lanarkshire, last Thursday.
His parents have spoken of their grief at the loss of their "lovely son" and have also thanked his friends and teachers for their support.
Thousands of pounds have been raised for his family through a fundraiser organised by his local club, along with messages of sympathy and support from across the country.
Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths said he would be meeting Celtic fan Kieran's family prior to the team's SPFL match against Aberdeen on Saturday afternoon.
During the match, he paid tribute to Kieran by holding up a strip bearing the 13-year-old's name after scoring a goal.
The 13-year-old, who played for Dunbeth Football Club's 2003 team, went into a coma and was transferred to the Royal Hospital for Children at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow.
On Friday, the club announced that the teenager had passed away earlier that day, paying tribute to the "happy go lucky" pupil from St Margaret's High School in Airdrie.
Kieran's sister Amy also paid tribute to her brother on Facebook on Friday, and praised his life-saving organ donations.
She wrote: "Would also like to let everyone know that Kieran has remained the most sensitive and generous boy that he is and donated some of his organs which has saved two peoples lives today. What a brave soldier, he will be truly missed.
"Lots of love, big sis x."
Kieran's parents issued a brief statement in which they said their son had "lived life to the full".
They said: "We are devastated at the loss of our lovely son Keiran. He lived life to the full and his smile would light up a room.
"We are very grateful for the support we've received from his friends and teachers at the school."
The club later launched a crowdfunding appeal "to assist the family of Kieran McDade at this sad time".
Within the four hours, the initial target of £3000 had been broken, as thousands of pounds and messages of sympathy poured in.
Less than 24 hours later, more than £10,400 has been raised.
Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths tweeted on Saturday that he was "looking forward to meeting the family of Kieran Mcdade before the game".
Dunbeth FC club secretary Martin Holmes told STV News the youngster suffered a cardiac arrest in last Thursday's incident.
He said: "It was at training last Thursday. It had just started, the boys were doing their warm-up. They had just started to do small runs, around 50 yards, when Kieran complained about being breathless.
"He sat down and was taking on water when things just escalated from there. An ambulance was called and the coaching staff did what they could, getting Kieran into the recovery position.
"The ambulance arrived very quickly but he had stopped breathing by that point.
"Then last night we heard from the hospital there was nothing more they could do for him. This is just beyond comprehension. It has been horrendous for everyone."
