An extensive search has been launched to find a vulnerable 65-year-old woman missing in Edinburgh.

Annie Ross was last seen at the foot of the Playfair Steps on the Mound at around 3:15pm on Tuesday, August 23.

Police said she may appear to be "confused and unaware of her surroundings" and are keen to trace her.

She is described as 5ft 5ins tall, of medium build, with short curly dark hair.

She was last seen wearing a grey waterproof waist-length jacket with hood, light blue/purple fleece, green polo top, black trousers and black leather trainers.

Police say they are carrying out a major search, focusing on the meadows area and city centre as well as utilising an electronic screen at the Edinburgh Military Tattoo to help publicise the ongoing appeal.

Sergeant Tom Kerr based at Gayfield police station said: "We are concerned for Annie and this is growing with every passing hour.

"From our early enquiries it would appear that she is without any money and may appear distressed. I would urge anyone who may have seen her to contact police on 101 or speak to any officer."
