Two women have travelled from Ireland to the UK in order to get an abortion, and to protest and highlight the fact that abortion is illegal in the Republic of Ireland.

The pair recorded their journey on a Twitter account, TwoWomenTravel, posting photos and updates of their journey by plane, train, and taxi.

The account of the journey was set up in solidarity with the many other Irish women who are forced to make the same journey every year.

It also supports the campaign to Repeal the 8th Amendment - the amendment which criminalises all abortion in Ireland with the exception of a pregnancy which would result in the mother's death.

The tweets also tag in Enda Kenny, Taoiseach, to highlight the lengths women have to go to in order to obtain the procedure.

"Enda Kenny failed us. You did not," one tweet said, referring to the tweets and messages of support that the women had received over the duration of their journey to get the abortion.

The pair's story comes just a couple of months after a UN human rights panel said that the country's restrictive abortion laws are cruel and inhumane, and degrading to women.
