Two New Jersey Transit buses collided in Newark on Friday killing a driver and injuring 18 others, seven seriously.

The person killed was the driver of an empty bus that slammed into the side of another bus carrying approximately 20 passengers at 6am.

The force of the crash left one bus embedded in the side of the other.

Firefighters could be seen pulling passengers through a side window and loading them onto waiting stretchers and into ambulances.

Investigators are trying to determine if the driver who died went through a red light, Mayor Ras Baraka said.

"We're praying for all of those in the hospital," he said.
