Homes were evacuated after an unexploded bomb was discovered at a house in Falkirk.
Bomb disposal experts were called out after a member of the public reported finding a Second World War shell at a property in the town's Brodick Place.
The police were alerted to the incident at around 4.30pm on Thursday and homes in the surrounding Tamfourhill area were evacuated and local roads closed.
The device was then destroyed by bomb disposal experts in a controlled explosion.
Inspector Andrew Malcolm said: "Specialist engineers from the Explosive Ordinance Disposal were called to assess the situation and the item was later destroyed in a controlled explosion.
"A number of homes in the area were temporarily evacuated in the interest of public safety.
"I wish to thank the local community for their patience and cooperation."
The occupiers have since returned to their properties and local roads have reopened.
