A man who smashed a bottle over a fellow reveller's head at T in the Park has been jailed after the footage was posted online.

Marius Bauba was arrested after the seven-second mobile phone clip ended up on Police Scotland's Facebook page.

Bauba, 23, from Prestwick, South Ayrshire, was jailed for 13 months after admitting assaulting Robert Large during the music festival at Strathallan Castle near Auchterarder in July last year.

Fiscal depute Robbie Brown told Perth Sheriff Court: "It was captured on video. There was a posting on Facebook and it ended up on the Police Scotland Facebook page.

"It showed the accused striking the complainer over the head with a bottle. It was seen by a number of people and as a result the accused and the complainer were identified.

"The video shows a number of males near tents and a man is seen stumbling about. That is the complainer.

"The accused comes into view, appears to hold the complainer with one hand as he bends down to pick up a bottle and smashes it over the head of another person who stumbles towards the camera."

Solicitor Tony Currie, defending, said: "It came to the attention of the police by a slightly circuitous route as there was no report at the time.

"Matters were captured on mobile phone and put on Facebook and that came to the attention of the police who identified my client as the person involved.

"He maintains that having become inebriated during this festival and becoming separated from friends he was disorientated and stumbled quite literally into an altercation between others."

Mr Currie added: "He became embroiled in this for what reason he cannot explain. It is very much a matter of regret for him. It is very fortunate the complainer only sustained scratches to his head.

"He recognises this was a very serious incident and it is fortunate it did not have more serious consequences."

Jailing Bauba, Sheriff Lindsay Foulis told him: "This is a serious matter. The video footage is eloquent as to what occurred. You have a previous conviction for assault.

"This involved striking someone with a bottle - a weapon - and the force of it resulted in the bottle smashing.

"Thankfully it was relatively minor injuries which were caused."
