Police worker sacked after ending 999 call from rape victim
Gail Daniels-Ekarte, who was working for Thames Valley Police, did not send help to the woman.
A police call handler has been sacked after she ended a 999 call from a woman who was later raped.
The victim told Gail Daniels-Ekarte she was in danger - but after five minutes the call was ended and no officers were sent to the woman's aide.
Later that day, in December 2013, another call came in to the Thames Valley Police control room, reporting the woman had been raped.
Ms Daniels-Ekarte was sacked at a gross-misconduct hearing after it was found she had not dealt with the call appropriately and did not follow force guidelines.
Assistant Chief Constable Dave Hardcastle, head of operations at Thames Valley Police, said her actions "fell very far below the standard of what we expect".
