Puppy stolen from pensioner's garden by two men in van
Leonard Ormond, 82, left 'really distraught' after theft on Napier Drive in Dundee.
An elderly man has been left devastated after his beloved puppy was stolen from his garden.
Leonard Ormond's eight-month-old Border terrier was snatched from outside his Dundee home by two men on Monday morning.
The 82-year-old was in his living room when he noticed a grey van pull up beside his garden fence on Napier Drive.
Thinking the men were charity workers, he got up to speak to them but by the time frail Mr Ormond reached his front door they had driven off and his pet Rosco was nowhere to be seen.
Little Rosco, who was wearing a collar with an ID tag, has now been registered as stolen on his microchip.
Rosco has been a companion for Mr Ormond, particularly since his wife Muriel went into hospital seven weeks ago.
Their son Gordon, who lives in London, told STV News: "He's really distraught about this. We have spoken to the police.
"The van has been seen around a few places in Dundee - people have said they have seen a grey van with some guy shouting 'nice dog'. It seems to be an organised criminal gang."
He said of his father: "He's lived in that house since he was 11. It's the first time that anything like this has happened to him. It's quite a tight-knit community and it's very residential."
A police spokeswoman said: "Police Scotland is making enquiries following a report that a brown-coloured male Border terrier dog was stolen from an address in Napier Drive, Dundee, between 9am and 9.30am [on Monday morning.
"Officers are keen to trace a grey Ford Transit van with a blue or possibly brown logo that was seen in the area at the time. The man driving the van was wearing a high visibility vest and was accompanied by another man.
"Anyone who saw or heard suspicious activity or has information to assist officers is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101.
"Alternatively information can be passed to the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
