Volunteers have joined the search for a man who went missing two days ago.

Peter Ripley, 60, disappeared from his home in Bonar Bridge, Sutherland, on Sunday evening.

Officers are searching the town and surrounding area with the help of local volunteers.

Police and coastguard helicopters, two mountain rescue teams and search dogs have been drafted in.

Inspector Jamie Wilson said: "We are extremely concerned for Mr Ripley's welfare.

"Extensive searching has been carried out to date and will continue with assistance from partner agency and the local community, for which we are very grateful indeed.

"We would reiterate our appeal for local residents to check outbuildings and gardens and be mindful of search activity, reporting anything they feel may assist."

Mr Ripley is 5ft 9in, of medium build, with a bald head and a greying moustache. He was wearing a black puffa jacket, dark jeans, dark boots, and was carrying a rucksack when last seen.
