The family of a man who was murdered in Dundee four years ago say they are desperate for his killer to be caught.

John McMurchie died from a single stab wound to the heart in August 2012 after being found lying on Fintry Terrace after a night out in Dundee.

A police investigation was launched and nearly 1000 witness statements were gathered but no one has ever been charged over the 50-year-old's murder.

Speaking on the anniversary of his death, his wife Donna McMurchie said it has been "very, very hard without him".

His son Kris McMurchie said: "It always seems like something is missing, part of life is missing, and when it comes to this point every year it gets really hard to deal with.

"We're just trying to hang on for that one bit of information that could close the case and give us the answers we're looking for.

"I'm looking for somebody to say, 'right, it was me' and get it over and done with."

Mr McMurchie's daughter Carrie Watson said: "It's more frustrating than anything else because we're still sitting waiting for answers that are probably never going to come.

"It would be a lot better if we did know exactly what happened and have closure so we could lay him to rest."

Police Scotland said the passage of time is no barrier to the investigation of cold cases and that it will continue to take advantage of any advances in technology to secure justice for victims of crime.
