Organisers of the Rio Olympics are making new flags for China after being informed its stars were positioned incorrectly.

Chinese citizens watching the shooting and swimming medal ceremonies had noticed the mistake and complained.

Games spokesman Mario Andrada said: "The flags produced had been approved by the Chinese prior to production. You have to be very familiar with the Chinese flag to notice it [the mistake]".

Those who complained said the stars on the flag were parallel with each other, whereas the correct flag has one large star with four smaller stars in a semicircle tilted towards the larger one.

"Yesterday we managed to go back to (the) company. They are producing a bunch of correct flags to be delivered here shortly. It is a Brazilian company," Andrada added.
