A woman was rescued on Wednesday night after falling into the River Tay.

The alarm was raised at around 7pm after the woman, in her early 50s, slipped and fell into the Tay close to the roundabout near the Tesco supermarket on Dundee's Riverside Drive.

Police, fire and rescue and ambulance crews were all in attendance.

A lifeboat crew from Broughty Ferry were also called to assist.

A spokesman said: "The RNLI volunteers were alerted by the coastguard just after 7pm.

"Following the alert both the all weather and inshore lifeboats were launched within six minutes.

"Upon arrival at scene it was found that other emergency services were on scene with the Fire and Rescue service assisting a woman out of the water."

The woman was not thought to have sustained any serious injury.
