A man who pushed his ex-lover out of a window, then peeled away her fingers as she desperately tried to avoid the 16ft fall, has been jailed for 24 years.

Following Lisa Turner's fall, Marlon Bills calmly shut the window, and then when police arrived at his Dudley flat, he pulled a knife on them and attempted to stab them.

Ms Turner suffered a broken spine and ankle in the fall and had to crawl to get help.

Bills had lured his 43-year-old victim to his flat in the West Midlands before he threatened her and pushed her out of his bathroom window.

In a week-long trial Bills denied wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, two counts of attempted wounding against the arresting officers and two further breaches of a restraining order.

However, a jury convicted the 44-year-old of the charges and on Wednesday he was jailed for 24 years at Birmingham Crown Court, where he was told he must serve at least two-thirds of his sentence behind bars.

The judge also gave him an extended five-year licence period.

Bills was ordered to pay his victim £10,000 in compensation within six months.
