A twenty-two-year British man has died fighting Islamic fundamentalists.

Dean Carl Evans from Reading was killed helping Kurdish militia during an offensive against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (Isil) in the northern Syrian city of Manbij.

In a statement on Facebook from July 24, his father, John Evans, said his son had died in a firefight on Friday as he fought alongside anti-Isil forces to take back the city that lies near the Turkish border.

Evans wrote: "My son Dean Carl Evans born the 7/10/93 sadly was killed in sirea (sic) on Friday he was loved and will be missed by all his family and friends rip son xx xx he was only young in this photo".

The Facebook page of the International Brigades of Rojava announced Evans's death in a post that read: "British YPG fighter Dean Carl Evans (Gîvara Rojava) martyred in ‪Manbij‬ clashes against ISIS on 21st July 2016."
