A group of football fans have been detained following reports of a disturbance at an Aberdeen hotel.

Aberdeen and Maribor supporters were taken into custody at the Holiday Inn Express on Chapel Street on Friday morning.

The reported incident in the early hours followed a Europa league qualifier at Pittodrie on Thursday.

Match commander Nick Topping said: "A number of people are currently detained following a minor disturbance in the early hours of this morning involving some individuals who we believe are football fans from both clubs.

"This was a contained and isolated incident which posed no threat to any other members of the community, and no one was seriously injured."
