A man has been arrested following the death of a bodybuilder who recently won the Mr Scotland title.

Michael O'Hanlon, 45, was allegedly found stabbed at Moorpark Industrial Estate in Stevenston, North Ayrshire, at about midday on Monday.

Emergency services were called to the estate but Mr O'Hanlon, who ran the Musclebox bodybuilding shops, died at the scene.

Police said a 43-year-old man has been arrested in connection with his death.

Mr O'Hanlon, from Irvine, had won the National Amateur Body-Builders' Association (NABBA) Mr Scotland title in March this year.

According to the NABBA website he won the class two contest and the overall competition in 2016, having first won the title 23 years ago.

He had been due to get married in a few weeks' time, and his fiancee has said she will still be changing her name.

In a Facebook post, Eileen Kirkwood said: "Am way to identify my partner's and soul mate's body as most you know his life was cruelly taken yesterday.

"To let people know the O'Hanlon name and both business will remain. I and Michael's family and close business friends will make sure of that.

"I will stay strong for my man and although we didn't get to make our wedding day on the 15th Aug my name will still change to O'Hanlon."

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "A 43-year old man has been arrested and detained in police custody in connection with the death of Michael O'Hanlon of the Irvine area.

"Relatives are aware and a report will be sent to the procurator fiscal."
