A new campaign has been launched to provide funding for a dog shelter and cat rescue centre.

Bandeath Dog Shelter in Stirling was recently saved from closure but concerns are growing that services will have to be drastically reduced due to a lack of funding.

Shirley Macmillan, who runs the Safe Paws Doggy Daycare in Stirling, warned that without increased funding, "there just isn't enough money to do anything other than keep the place open".

Ms Macmillan said the dog shelter needs to be modernised and the Cats Protection centre in Fishcross, Clackmannanshire, also needs urgent attention.

Launching the campaign on the JustGiving website, Ms Macmillan hopes to provide modern facilities for the protection and relocation of stray animals, as well as any veterinary fees incurred.

Facilities for catching feral cats and strays, Ms Macmillan said, are "dated and time consuming, causing more stress to the amazing volunteers and the poor kitties they are trying to help".

All money raised will be put towards the funding of up to date equipment, including cameras, veterinary fees and remote traps with text notifications.

A fundraiser is also due to be held at Ms Macmillan's Safe Paws centre, with all funds raised to be shared between the two shelters.
