A house was hit by lightning and other properties suffered power cuts and surges as thunderstorms hit the north east of Scotland.

Tuesday's warm temperatures led to storms overnight into Wednesday.

The north east of the country was worst affected, with householders in Cove Bay, south of Aberdeen, reporting power cuts.

At least one property in the area was struck by lightning when the thunderstorm was at its height in the early hours of Wednesday.

Heavy rain and thunder and lightning is expected to hit the central belt and Dumfries and Galloway later on Wednesday morning.

The Met Office has put a yellow "be aware" weather warning in place across the whole of Scotland throughout Wednesday.

Environment agency Sepa has also issued flood alerts across most of the country but none have been upgraded to warnings or severe warnings.

Drivers have been urged to take extra care as surface water has been reported on various routes.
