A man arrested near Jose Mourinho's London home has been jailed for attempted burglary after reportedly trying to enter the Manchester United manager's basement.

Pictures published in The Sun newspaper showed Mourinho and his wife Matilde looking out their front window at police officers who are standing next to a man in a baseball cap.

The newspaper reported Mourinho was watching TV when a maid screamed as she saw the man trying to get in a basement door.

Gabor Roman, 25, of no fixed address, was sentenced to four weeks in prison when he pleaded guilty to attempted burglary.

He was held in the upmarket Belgravia area of the capital where houses cost millions of pounds.

The arrest occurred in the early evening of the Euro 2016 final, which saw Mourinho's nation Portugal beat France, and hours after the former Chelsea boss had attended the Wimbledon final to see Andy Murray crowned the men's champion.

The Metropolitan Police said Roman pleaded guilty to the offence two days later at Westminster Magistrates' Court.
