Victim named locally as George Laird died after the incident at Norbord in Cowie, Stirlingshire.
A worker has died after suffering serious burns at a chipboard manufacturer.
The employee at wood-based panel maker Norbord, named locally as George Laird, was fatally injured in the incident in Cowie, Stirlingshire.
It is understood the 64-year-old had worked for the firm on Station Road for more than three decades and was due to retire next month.
Police Scotland confirmed the worker had died at the specialist burns unit at St John's Hospital in Livingston, having been transferred from Forth Valley Royal Hospital in Larbert.
A spokesman for Police Scotland said: "Police in Stirling were called to an industrial site off Station Road in Cowie at 5.40pm on Wednesday, July 13, after a man sustained serious burns as a result of a work related incident.
"A 64-year-old man was transferred by ambulance to hospital, where he has since passed away.
"A joint investigation between the Health and Safety Executive and Police Scotland will be carried out in order to establish the full set of circumstances."
It is understood Mr Laird was unblocking part of the system at the factory when he suffered the burns.
The site remained shut on Thursday as police and Health and Safety Executive officials carried out inquiries.
Karl Morris, managing director of Norbord Europe, said: "We are cooperating fully with Police Scotland and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) on their joint investigation to ascertain the cause of the accident.
"Safety is Norbord's top priority and we are deeply saddened by this incident. We express our profound sympathy to the family at this very difficult time."
