Images of £21m sports centre in Dundee unveiled to public
The new venue in Caird Park will provide training facilities for Dundee FC among others.
New images of the multimillion-pound regional performance centre for sport in Dundee have been revealed.
Plans for the £21m facility at Caird Park have been submitted for planning approval.
The centre will provide a training and competition venue for regional squads across a wide but range of sports and provide facilities training for Dundee FC.
It is expected planning permission will be considered by Dundee City Council in the next few months. The project's backers hope to start work on site later this year.
Sports including badminton, basketball, netball, rugby and volleyball will be provided for in the new building while athletics, golf and track cycling will be part of the wider campus.
The need for a new regional performance centre for sport (RPCS) to serve Tayside and Fife was highlighted by sportscotland in its national and regional sports facilities strategy (NRSFS) in 2003 and in the national and regional sports facility investment strand in October 2013.
Dundee City Council and sportscotland are partners in the project.
The bodies have been working together to develop the scope of the facility based on the various sports' strategic needs, affordability and sustainability as well as discussions with local sports clubs and the desire to have a level of community use.
