Labour MP Jo Cox's funeral will be a "very small and private family affair", her family has said.

Ms Cox, who died after being attacked in her Batley and Spen constituency, will be laid to rest in West Yorkshire on Friday.

Arrangements have been made for the cortege to stop at two locations to allow members of the public to pay their respects.

The location of the funeral has not been made public.

In a statement issued through West Yorkshire Police, her family said: "We have been overwhelmed and touched by the love and support people have shown us since Jo's death. We are deeply grateful to all who have reached out to us."

Ms Cox died on June 16 after she was attacked outside her constituency surgery in Birstall, West Yorkshire.

Thomas Mair, 52, has appeared at the Old Bailey in central London charged with murdering Mrs Cox.

He is also charged with grievous bodily harm, possession of a firearm with intent to commit an indictable offence, and possession of an offensive weapon.

He is remanded in custody and due to go on trial in November.
