Police have made at least 17 arrests so far at the T in the Park festival.

Officers say the event has been "good natured," and the arrests have mainly been for minor offences.

The number of people using the hospital tent at the festival, on the Strathallan Estate in Perthshire, has largely been the same as last year.

Superintendent Conrad Trickett, said on Friday evening: "So far it has generally been a good natured event.

"We've only made eight arrests today and recovered a small number of drugs. We will continue with our policing operation overnight and into the weekend.

"We ask everyone to continue to look after themselves and their friends and speak to any of our officers if they need any assistance."

The festival's organisers said 182 people had presented at the hospital tent by Friday evening.

Nick Moore, of the Scottish Ambulance Service, said: "Fans are in good spirits and on the whole people are presenting for minor ailments and injuries.

"We'd remind everyone to make sure they come fully prepared with warm clothes, any prescription medicines they might need and to drink water throughout the weekend."

Separately, police are investigating the deaths of two teenagers at the festival, which may have been linked to drugs.

The deaths of a 17-year-old boy from the west of Scotland and a 17-year-old girl from the north of England are not thought to be suspicious.

Festival director Geoff Ellis said: "This morning brought a great deal of sadness for us all and we've been doing all we can to assist Police Scotland with their investigation.

"We remain focused on delivering a safe, enjoyable event for the rest of the fans onsite and we thank them for their positive attitude.

"Make sure you look after yourself and your friends for the rest of the weekend. Remember, there's no safe way to take drugs, so don't take the risk. Enjoy the music and have a great time."
