The US Capitol is on lockdown as police search for an unnamed individual who triggered a security incident.

Capitol police said the lockdown was triggered by an "event" and said authorities were looking for someone.

People have been ordered to take shelter in their offices with locked doors and windows. Nobody will be permitted to enter or leave the building until the lockdown has been lifted, officers added.
