A 14-year-old boy who disappeared from his home has been found safe after a police search.

Hamid Iqbal had last been seen leaving an address on Howden Hall Road in Gilmerton, Edinburgh at about 1.30am on Tuesday.

He did not say where he was going and has not been in touch with family since. He was reported missing and police appealed to the public for help.

Officers confirmed late on Thursday that he had been traced safe and well.

A statement from Police Scotland said: "We have successfully traced 14-year-old Hamid Iqbal who had been missing since the early hours of Tuesday.

"Thanks again to the media and public for helping with our appeal."
