The first campers have arrived and pitched their tents at Strathallan Estate as T in the Park 2016 gets under way.

The sun shone down on the Perthshire countryside as the campsite gates were opened on Thursday afternoon but the good weather is not expected to last.

After the travel chaos of last year, a new traffic management system has been put in place to ensure a smoother operation this year.

More than 400 buses had dropped off revellers by 4pm.

Festival director Geoff Ellis said: "The moment we open the T in the Park campsite gates and welcome the first campers is always my favourite part of the weekend.

"It's an amazing feeling to see the first festival fans arrive. There was a phenomenal atmosphere today and a great sense of excitement amongst the campers.

"T in the Park fans are truly the best audience in the world, we hope everybody has a fantastic weekend."

George Kyle, head of sponsorship for Tennent's Lager, said: "It's fantastic to welcome the first campers to T in the Park 2016.

"The site looks great, the sun is shining and the atmosphere is incredible."

Amid the early celebrations, a video has emerged on social media, appearing to show a brawl at the campsite.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "We have been made aware of the video and are making enquiries."

He added the video has not yet been authenticated and no arrests have been made.

The Stone Roses, Calvin Harris and the Red Hot Chili Peppers will headline this year's event.

Tickets are still available on the T in the Park website.
