Search after car plunges into loch with 'family' inside
Emergency services were called to Loch Nan Druimnean near Oban on Wednesday afternoon.
A rescue operation was under way on Wednesday evening after a car plunged into a loch in Argyll.
Unconfirmed reports suggest a family of two adults and two children were travelling in the vehicle when it came off the road and entered the water at Loch Nan Druimnean near Oban.
Two people were reportedly still inside the vehicle after the incident around 4pm on Wednesday.
Emergency services including a coastguard helicopter and rescue team were called to the scene just north of the village of Kilmelford.
A police spokesman said: "At 4pm on Wednesday July 6, police and other emergency services responded to reports of a car going into a loch north of Kilmelford on the A816 near Oban.
"Emergency services are at the scene dealing with the incident."
Eyewitness Samantha Leiper, 20, passed the scene of the crash shortly after the incident.
She told STV News: "I was passing through at around 4:30pm today and there was a woman in tears at the side of the road.
"There were at least 20 cars in front of me at a standstill and the woman at the side of the road was crowded by people trying to comfort her.
"There were tyre and mud marks on both sides of the road. The loch is really close to the road. It is a sharp bend you go round - there's four or five corners all together at that part.
"When I passed there were no emergency services at the scene. I passed the police and ambulance about 15 minutes down the road.
"They were coming from the Lochgilphead direction, which is further away than Oban."
Another eyewitness told STV News she had seen three helicopters at the scene as well as police and ambulance units.
Traffic Scotland said the A816 has been closed at the scene.
