A driver has admitted causing the death of a motorcyclist in a head-on crash in Perthshire.

James Lambert died after being struck "full force" as Graeme McLaughlin overtook a 4x4 on the opposite side of the A822.

The 62-year-old suffered massive blood loss after being hurtled through the air in the crash.

Former roofing safety adviser McLaughlin pleaded guilty to causing Mr Lambert's death by careless driving at the High Court in Glasgow.

The 30-year-old, of East Kilbride, South Lanarkshire, will be sentenced next month.

The fatal collision occurred between Muthill and Crieff on July 11, 2014.

The court heard Mr Lambert hit the windscreen of McLaughlin's Ford Fiesta before being propelled over the car.

As the victim landed in a ditch, McLaughlin got out of his vehicle looking "visibly shaken".

A GP near the crash scene went to help and Mr Lambert was taken to hospital but never recovered after going into cardiac arrest.

This was caused by "massive internal and external blood loss".

McLaughlin had initially faced an allegation of causing death by dangerous driving before prosecutors accepted his guilty plea to the reduced charge.

Sentencing was deferred for reports.
