A four-year-old girl has died after a crash involving two cars which also left a young woman injured.

The 20-year-old woman was driving a black Vauxhall Corsa on Sergeant Law Road in Paisley, Renfrewshire at around 4.50pm on Tuesday.

A 24-year-old man was a front seat passenger while a three-year-old boy and the four- year-old girl were passengers in the back of the vehicle.

As the vehicle exited the junction at Sergeant Law Road on to Gleniffer Road, it collided with a Grey BMW 120 vehicle that was being driven southbound on Gleniffer Road.

Emergency services attended and the girl was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where she later died.

The 20-year-old woman was taken to the same hospital where she remains in a stable condition after receiving treatment for serious injuries.

The boy was also taken to hospital for observations but was uninjured as was the man.

The 34-year-old man who was driving the BMW was also unhurt.

The road was closed for six hours as road crash investigators conducted a full examination of the site. The police helicopter was also called in to provide support.

Sergeant Kenneth Malaney, from the Divisional Road Policing Unit based at Greenock said: "This was a serious road crash which has resulted in the death of a young girl.

"Road policing officers are continuing to investigate the circumstances which led to this collision. The road was moderately busy at the time of the incident and it is likely that the collision was witnessed by a number of passing motorists.
