A computer shop was at the centre of a major incident after a "suspicious device" was discovered by fraud officers.

Police cordoned off an area around Microtech 2000 in Main Street, Camelon, near Falkirk on Wednesday.

Officers found the object as they searched the business in connection with a fraud investigation at around 1.15pm.

The bomb disposal team was also on the scene carrying out an assessment with a robot. Witnesses reported a significant police presence and firefighters were also called out.

A man has been detained in connection with the fraud probe which had prompted the search of the premises, police said.

A business owner told STV: "The police have cordoned off most of the road. There are a lot of police and fire engines and everyone is talking about the bomb squad being involved."

Police Scotland confirmed the cordon was lifted at around 4.15pm after the shop had been inspected.

A spokesman said: "We executed a search warrant at a business premises in Main Street, Camelon, today in connection with a fraud investigation.

"While in attendance, officers discovered a suspicious device and a cordon was put in place from 1.15pm to 4.15pm as a precaution. The appropriate partners were called to assist and there was found to be no threat to the public.

"A man is currently detained in connection with the fraud investigation, and enquiries are continuing. The local community are thanked for their patience while this was ongoing."

During the incident, First Bus advised customers that diversions are in place via Glenfuir Road and Union Road during the police incident.
