The fire ripped through the ground and first floor of a garage attached to a house in Carston Mews in the early hours.

A total of 35 firefighters were involved in tackling the blaze.

Concern was initially raised for people thought to be missing but a spokeswoman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said everyone has now been accounted for.

She said: "At 5.40am Edinburgh operations control received a 999 call informing them of a fire at Carston Mews, Killearn with persons reported missing."

Crews were still at the scene damping down the building to make it safe at 11am.
