Jo Cox, Labour MP for Batley and Spen, has reportedly been shot in Leeds, according to an eyewitness.

The politician has reportedly been attacked at her advice surgery in Birstall.

She became an MP in May 2015, and was one of the 36 MPs who supported the nomination of Jeremy Corbyn in the Labour leadership battle.

Later she wrote in a Guardian piece that she regretted backing him, alongside another Labour MP, Neil Coyle. She reportedly ended up voting for Liz Kendall.

Prior to becoming an MP, she worked as head of policy for Oxfam, and was an advisor to Sarah Brown and Baronness Kinnock.

She is married with two children and lives near Tower Bridge in London.
