Bikers clocked at 110mph during speeding crackdown
Police officers stopped 115 motorists for speeding-related offences over the weekend.
Speeding drivers who reached speeds of up to 110mph were caught out in a police crackdown at the weekend.
Patrols on the A82, A83, A84 and A85 were carried out to coincide with a major motorbike event as part of a safety campaign for motorcyclists over the summer months.
It was the first outing for a new unmarked police motorbike, which joined marked motorcycles and cars in the activity in Stirlingshire.
Police officers stopped 115 motorists for speeding or offences of careless or dangerous driving relating to speed.
Of those, ten have been reported to the procurator fiscal, 28 were given warnings and the rest have been given fixed penalty notices.
Further road users were given fixed penalty notices for offences including careless driving and having no MOT or insurance, while two vehicles without insurance were seized.
Inspector Roddy MacMillan of the trunk road policing unit said: "The main roads around Tyndrum were very busy with visitors to the demo event, which gave us a good opportunity to speak to a large number of motorists and give road safety advice.
"Whilst the vast majority of drivers and motorcyclists were driving and riding responsibly, a small minority were putting the others at risk by speeding and carrying out dangerous manoeuvres.
"We detected motorbikes travelling at 110mph and cars speeding at up to 95mph. There is no excuse for such reckless behaviour and those drivers and riders have been reported for prosecution.
"Our new unmarked bike, with its digital recording facilities, was quite a talking point amongst the riders we met outside the event, and whilst we much prefer to engage with drivers, it will be a vital tool in keeping our roads safer for everyone."
Road policing officers carried out were supported by colleagues from the safety camera unit.
