Three injured in 'targeted' fire attack near Glasgow
Residents said the Cardowan area looked like a 'war zone' during the incident on Sunday.
A "targeted attack" on the outskirts of Glasgow which left three men in hospital may be linked to rival gangs.
The serious disturbance in which several vehicles were set on fire occurred on Frankfield Road, Cardowan, near Stepps in North Lanarkshire at around 1.30pm on Sunday.
Firefighters battled the tackle the blaze which was described by eyewitnesses as "as high as a house".
Shocked onlookers described the scene as a 'war zone' and another local resident said he saw a boy sitting in an ambulance "covered in blood".
The man added: "There was a fire at the end of the street, and I heard tyres blowing up. There were police, fire brigade, ambulances, tow trucks, you name it, everything was here."
Police believe the incident could be related to rival gangs but have ruled out terrorism.
Detective Superintendent Stephen Grant said enquires into the "serious disturbance" are continuing.
He said: "Officers are continuing enquiries after three men were left injured in what we understand is a targeted attack in the Cardowan area.
"These three men are in a stable condition. It would be inappropriate in light of the ongoing investigation to provide further information at this time.
"This was a brazen incident on Frankfield Road, involving a number of vehicles being set alight. A substantial police response followed the initial reports.
"This has given rise to speculation that the incident may have been connected to terrorism in some form. Whilst we are limited in what we can say in respect of the ongoing enquiry, what we can confirm at this time, is that this incident is not related to terrorism.
"Dedicated officers are analysing available CCTV and conducting door to enquiries. Anyone with information is asked to contact officers regarding the incident using the 101 number.
