A British man has been accused of throwing his girlfriend to death from a hotel balcony in Tenerife.

The 25-year-old woman, who has not been named, died instantly after plunging 12 floors at Apartments Paraiso del Sur in the resort of Adeje.

Local police arrested her partner after looking through CCTV footage which allegedly shows a man kicking and punching a woman moments before they entered their room.

The couple are believed to have been on holiday with their five-year-old daughter and other family members at the time.

It is thought they had been staying on the island since mid-May. A post-mortem has yet to be carried out.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office said: "We are offering assistance to the family of a British woman who sadly died in Tenerife."
