Ryanair has had to cancel 75 flights as French air traffic controllers (ATC) go on strike.

The travel chaos is set to continue with three more days of strikes planned for this weekend.

French ATC unions have announced that further strikes will be planned to directly target the European Championships being held in France between 10 June and 10 July.

Ryanair has called on the European Commission to take action to stop strikes causing so much disruption for travellers.

Ryanair said it is the 50th French strike since 2009 and the 9th in the past ten weeks.

Ryanair advised customers travelling on Thursday and this weekend to check the status of their flight on the Ryanair.com website before travelling to the airport.

It has also started a Keep Europe's Skies Open petition, which it will present to the European Commission once it accrues a million signatures.
