A man has died in hospital after he was found unconscious in a street, sparking a police probe.

The 42-year-old man was found in Tweed Avenue, Kirkcaldy, near its junction with Lawson Street around 6.45pm on Saturday.

He was taken to Victoria Hospital but died later.

Police are treating the death as suspicious and have urged anyone with information to come forward.

Inspector Gary Combe, of Kirkcaldy police station, said: "Our inquiries are at an early stage and we would appeal to anyone with information that can assist us to please come forward.

"There will be a police presence in the area during the early stages of this inquiry with high visibility reassurance patrols.

"We are grateful for the support and cooperation of the local community."
