Police investigating the death of a man after a disturbance in Girvan say they are following a positive line of inquiry.

A 44-year-old man, named locally as John Kiltie, was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident.

STV News understands he was stabbed outside of his home.

Emergency services had been called to the South Ayrshire town's Park Road shortly after 11am on Saturday.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "The death is being treated as suspicious at this time pending the result of a post-mortem.

"Officers are following a positive line of inquiry in relation to the incident.".
