Toxic gas leak warning system to be tested in Grangemouth
Warning tones and verbal instructions will be transmitted to the public.
A test of the public warning system in the event of a major toxic gas leak at Grangemouth is to be carried out.
The Grangemouth Petroleum and Chemical Complex Major Incident Control Committee Community Warning System will be activated at 7pm on Wednesday.
It will transmit warning tones and verbal instructions to the public to ensure they are aware of the different tones and know how to react in the event of a major toxic gas release.
Falkirk Council said: "In the unlikely event of an actual emergency taking place during the test, the transmission via the warning system will clearly indicate such an event and you should Go In, Stay in, Tune in."
Grangemouth is home to Scotland's only crude oil refinery and produces the bulk of fuels used in Scotland.
The plant's products are used extensively in the petrochemical industry and transformed into bottles and pipes, cabling and insulation, food packaging and are used in the pharmaceutical industry.
