Driver jailed after road rage chase paralyses young sisters
Driver left the children paralysed after his 4x4 smashed into their family car during a chase.
A driver who left two sisters, aged five and eight, paralysed after his company 4x4 smashed into their family car during a road rage chase, has been jailed for four-and-a-half-years.
Andrew Nay, 39, crashed into the Vauxhall as he made a right-hand turn across oncoming traffic causing Katrina Raiba, five, and her sister Karlina, eight, to suffer life-changing injuries last October.
Northampton Crown Court heard Nay, a Jaguar Land Rover manager and off-road driving instructor, was tailgating and "bullying" a woman driving a Mazda people carrier before the smash on the A509 near Wellingborough.
Nay admitted four counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, but denied chasing the Mazda before the crash.
As well as his prison term, Nay has been banned from driving for six years and three months. Having been disqualified from driving since the crash, he only has four years of it left to serve.
Moments before the crash, he was seen laughing and smiling with his passenger.
He was brought to justice with the help of dashcam footage from the victims' Vauxhall and witness accounts that described his manoeuvre before the crash as "absolutely ridiculous".
Northamptonshire Police released the footage from the dashcam showing the horrific crash.
The girls parents, Roberts Raibais and Renate Raiba, originally from Latvia, who suffered broken bones in the crash, said they were "completely shattered" by the incident.
