Welcome to Scotland from the Roadside, a weekly gallery showcasing some of the best images from around the country taken by you.

From opportune moments shot on smartphones to breathtaking landscapes captured in high definition, each week we share a selection of interesting pictures taken by people on their travels around Scotland.

We've partnered up with the Scotland from the Roadside Facebook group, a popular destination for trading photos and stories, which has drawn in more than 80,000 members and 500,000 images to date.

Each Friday, we ask the page's creators, Bruce Philip and Linda Curran, to select their favourite photographs from the week gone by.

Red reflections by Cathy Prentice

Cathy, 62, said: "I was driving up to Loch Lomond and stopped at Luss, beautiful little place. I thought the shadows in the water were beautiful that's why I had to take the picture."

Portobello sunset by Douglas Mackay

"Portobello Beach, one of my favourite locations to photograph," says Douglas.

"I live in the west side of the city but visit here often. Some stunning sunset shots to be had."

The Beheading Stone, complete with axe marks, by Steve Holland

"I am a keen amateur photographer and astronomer," says Steve.

"I am always on the lookout for a good photo. My wife and I were out walking along Stirling's back walk and I was snapping away as usual.

"Then I remembered the cannons and beheading stone were nearby and just thought it would be a cracking photo as the weather was so sunny. And the Gowan hill is always really nice on a good day."

The Kylerhea Ferry at Skye by Fiona Scott

"I was on holiday staying in Lochcarron with my mum and we had decided to go to Glenelg for lunch," says Fiona, from Inverness.

"As a child we would always go places via the 'back roadies' so I continue that tradition. Once at the ferry slip we had a wee while to wait as the ferry was at the other side.

"We had spent time looking in the wee lighthouse by the slipway - it's got lots of info on the Last Ever Turntable Ferry in the world - you can also buy souvenirs.

"As it approached the slip on the Glenelg side I wondered why the ferry did not approach it head on. She came in on the right of the slip and I was amazed to see a guy and a gal turn the bit that you drive vehicles on by hand/foot."

On the way to Skye by Chris Tuckett

"I live in Devon, England, but was staying in Inverness for one week with family," Chris explains.

"We were driving to the Isle of Skye to visit the fairy pools and we pulled over into a lay-by to take some photos. Photo is of Loch Cluanie, I believe."

Strange Post by Gordon Brown

"The most random post box I have ever seen," says Gordon. "No houses about, small bridge over a stream and a drop on the other side near Glenshee."

"I live in Forfar and while on a family day out driving round Glen Isla yesterday I came around a bend on the lanes and straight ahead was this post box on a wall in the middle of nowhere.

"I just stopped the car and thought, 'I gotta take this pic' as it's so random and unusual."

My favourite monument by Gus Robertson

"I pass the monument very often going to and from work," says Gus. "Plenty of early morning mists there and I vowed, one day, I'd quickly stop and try to capture the mood ... saw the right chance finally.

"Only had my wee camera so not HD by any stretch but the grain seems to add to atmosphere."

The Tardis or a little library? by Kenny Marshall

"I spent my childhood (about the first six years of my life) in the village of Kinnesswood and yesterday's visit was for nostalgic reasons," says Kenny.

"I remember the phone box well as a child and was intrigued to see what it had been converted to.

"This led me to post the photo to the group as I thought it would be of interest to others, which it certainly has been successful in doing, not just of interest to Scots, but to English and foreigners alike as well as showing a bit of Scottish culture. Suffice to say that people love unusual things."

Beinn Eighe from Loch Clair by John O'Brien

"My friend Keith and I had been on Skye for three days and then travelled to Torridon to meet up with Keith's wife Carol who was unable to join us on Skye," says John.

"The three of us have completed the Munros so have been to Torridon in the past. We are also keen amateur photographers.

"Keith suggested that we could go for a walk one afternoon around Loch Clair and Loch Coulin as he and Carol had been there before, I was happy to agree."
