A gamekeeper left a loaded gun on the side of a hill in Stirlingshire.

The loaded firearm was uncovered by hillwalkers above the village of Kippen.

Its owner was nowhere to be seen when the gun was found on August 6 last year.

Police were able to trace the weapon back to Shaun Wilson, 29, from Stirling who pleaded guilty to a charge under the Firearms Act 1968 at Stirling Sheriff Court on Thursday.

As well as a fine of £675, Wilson will now face a review of his firearms authorisation to be carried out by Police Scotland as part of his sentence.

A police spokesman said: "We would like to thank the members of the public for reporting their concerns."
