Have you ever played Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon?

It's a parlour game inspired by "six degrees of separation," a concept which prescribes that no one in the world is more than six relationships away from one another.

The game challenges players to connect any actor to Kevin Bacon, via the movies they have in common.

So for instance, Will Ferrell is in Anchorman with Tim Robbins, who is in Mystic River with Kevin Bacon - this counts as two moves.

Film buffs around the world have set each other increasingly complicated Six Degrees challenges, but we thought we'd set you a challenge themed around the 70th Edinburgh International Film Festival (EIFF), which has launched its programme.

In honour of the festival's seven decades we'll give you seven moves to link Robert De Niro and Ellen DeGeneres, just by the movies they have appeared in.

Read on for a few clues.

This year, the packed EIFF schedule features screenings of more than 150 films from 46 countries.

Among the highly anticipated events is Disney-Pixar animation Finding Dory starring Ellen DeGeneres as a loveable amnesiac blue tang fish. (Hint: 1)

Sex and the City actress Kim Cattrall and Mallrats director Kevin Smith are among the stars confirmed to make appearances during the programme, which runs from June 15 to 26.

Launched in 1947, the festival has played host to film culture across the spectrum, from from the UK premieres of Blade Runner, Alien and ET: The Extraterrestrial to Martin Scorsese's Taxi Driver. (Hint: 2)

Did you manage to link our chosen Hollywood heavyweights? If you did it in seven moves or less congratulations.

It took us a fair bit of head scratching (superseded by IMDB surfing) to come up with a four-move answer. (We were later told it could be done in two).
