Pride as Dundee nails its multicolours to the mast
The international symbol of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) rights was unfurled.
The rainbow flag celebrating lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) pride is flying high over City Square in Dundee.
The international symbol of LGBT rights was unfurled by the Lord Provost and local school pupils.
The flag was put on display alongside the saltire as Dundee marks its stand against homophobia and transphobia.
Lord provost Bob Duncan joined by pupils from Craigie High School, who have won an award for LGBT inclusion.
Mr Duncan said: "Dundee is a welcoming and warm city and that extends to everyone no matter what their sexual orientation or the gender they identify as.
"The cause of LGBT rights has been more widely publicised and gained ground in recent years but there is still more to be done.
"By flying the rainbow flag over the City Chambers we are showing our solidarity with and support of the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia."
In the late 1970s, San Francisco artist Gilbert Baker helped to popularise the rainbow flag as a symbol of the campaign for LGBT rights
The colours were designed to symbolise: life (red), healing (orange), sunlight (yellow), nature (green), harmony (blue), and spirit (purple/violet).
Craigie High school was also presented with a Bronze LGBT Schools Charter y by LGBT Youth Scotland for its work in supporting students as well as tackling homophobia, biphobia and transphobia.
The school carried out awareness raising activities and ensured that appropriate training and policies were in place across the school.
Head teacher Andrena Waghorn said: "We are delighted as a school to be the only school in Tayside to achieve this award.
"It is the culmination of a lot of hard work, effort and commitment from the whole school community.
"The programme was led by the LGBT Equality Group, chaired by a modern languages teacher, Mrs S Innes, and involved work with staff, pupils and partner agencies.
"The Charter Mark fits in well with our core school values, which incorporates respect, equality, responsibility, determination and honesty."
