A man has been arrested over the murder of an Indian restaurant owner nearly 40 years ago.

The body of Kazi Ahmad, 41, was found in his flat on Rosemount Viaduct in Aberdeen in October 1978.

A man was arrested in the Birmingham area on Saturday and is expected to appear in court on Monday.

Mr Ahmad, originally from Bangladesh, ran the Raj Dulal Restaurant on Dee Street and had lived in Scotland for nearly 20 years at the time of his death.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "We can confirm that a 62-year-old has been arrested in relation to the death of a 41-year-old Kazi Ahmad at a flat on Rosemount Viaduct.

"The man was arrested in the Birmingham area on Saturday."
