A man has died after being struck by a train in Dundee.

Emergency services converged on Broughty Ferry following the incident at 1.50pm on Friday.

Roads in the area were closed while police attended the incident.

A spokesman for the British Transport Police said: "A man has died after being struck by a train in the vicinity of Broughty Ferry Train Station."

An eyewitness told STV that roads into Broughty Ferry including Grey Street and Church Street have been closed and police are also preventing people from looking from the bridges towards the level crossing.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland's Tayside Division said some roads in the area, including Church Street and Fort Street, have been partially closed while officers attend the incident.

The East Coast Railway Line has now been reopened but Scotrail and Network Rail have advised customers to expect delays to services following the incident.

A spokesman for Network Rail said: "This incident has had an impact on services. Those travelling through the area should expect some disruption and delays."

A spokeswoman for ScotRail said services between Edinburgh/Glasgow and Aberdeen/Dundee are disrupted.

She said: "Sadly, due to a person being struck by a train near Dundee, some ScotRail services are disrupted.

"Passengers are advised to check our website or app for the most up to date information before travelling."
