Trainee police officers have responded in style to a dancing challenge set by their colleagues.

Recruits at the Police Scotland college at Tulliallan took up the "running man" challenge, turning their parade ground into a dance floor.

A video of the trainee officers strutting their stuff was posted on Facebok on Thursday and was viewed thousands of times.

They were responding to a team of officers from the force's Edinburgh division, who performed their own dance routine outside Edinburgh Castle.

The Edinburgh officers were in turn responding to the challenge set by police in New Zealand.

The NZ officers put a 30-second clip of them doing the "running man" dance on Facebook and called on forces around the world to follow their lead as part of a recruitment drive.

The Tulliallan video shows the recruits in the parade ground moving in formation before bursting into a dance routine.

Police Scotland said in their Facebook post on Thursday: "So we passed the #RunningManChallenge to our new recruits at the Police Scotland College, Tulliallan and they didn't disappoint - Brilliant."

Reacting to the Edinburgh video, assistant chief constable Mark Williams said earlier: "Police Scotland never shies away from a challenge and we were delighted to hear the New York Police Department was passing the Running Man dance baton on to us.

"Our officers are 'on the beat' every day and 'in step' with their local communities and I think we've well and truly shown the NYPD how it's done - as well as prove our officers have a sense of humour.

"On a more serious note, it's fantastic to see the camaraderie between Forces around the world and it clearly highlights the power of social media in engaging with our communities."
