'Pie-eyed' passenger fined over 'unacceptable' advances
Stephen Keogh grabbed 'visibly distressed' train steward on his way home from offshore job.
An offshore worker who got "pie-eyed" on his train journey home tried to make advances on a distressed steward.
Stephen Keogh was drunkenly celebrating finishing his stint on an oil rig when he grabbed the woman operating the on-board drinks trolley.
She asked him if he wanted a mixer with the spirits he was buying and he said: "No, I just want you."
At Perth Sheriff Court, the 52-year-old scaffolder was fined £1600 for his drunken behaviour during the journey home from work.
Fiscal depute Rebecca Kynaston told the court: "The accused reached out his arms before putting them round her waist. He placed his head against her and rested it on her shoulder.
"The complainer was upset about what happened and she went and sought assistance from a colleague. She was visibly distressed."
Keogh then launched a tirade of homophobic abuse at male workers before spitting towards them.
Police were called and he was removed from the train.
Solicitor David Holmes, defending, said: "He is 52 and lives with his mother. He apologises to the victims. His behaviour was extremely unacceptable. This was not mature behaviour."
Keogh, of Cumlodden Drive, Glasgow, admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner on a train between Montrose and Perth on July 2 last year.
Sheriff Lindsay Foulis said: "This behaviour was thoroughly objectionable to the lady, to her colleagues and to all the other passengers on the train.
"They could not avoid your behaviour. They had to sit and suffer your nonsense. The only reason for it was that you had too much to drink.
"You finished your shift on the rigs and decided to get pie-eyed on the train to Glasgow."
