Urban Outfitters retailers withdraws 'suicide' shampoo
A suicide prevention charity called for an end to the sale of Peachy Head shampoo.
Urban Outfitters has withdrawn a shampoo that has been branded "distasteful and dangerous" by appearing to make light of suicide and depression.
Customers complained about a product called Peachy Head - a pun on Beachy Head, the infamous cliffside suicide spot in East Sussex - on sale in its stores.
Made by British firm Anatomicals, the shampoo's packaging features a cartoon image of what looks like a head off hair falling off a cliff.
It also carries this description:
Twitter users slammed the "disgusting" product before Urban Outfitters said it had "reevaluated" the item and had already stopped selling it online.
It added that it was "regrettable" the shampoo had been left on sale in some of its stores.
The product is still listed on the Anatomicals website and the firm's co-founder Paul Marshall defended the product as "tongue-in-cheek."
He told the Huffington Post the firm "would never wish to be seen to be making light" of suicide, but did not address whether it would rebrand the shampoo.
Papyrus, a charity that works for the prevention of young suicide, told ITV News that it has called on Anatomicals to stop selling the product.
Ged Flynn, the Charity's CEO, said the packaging could cause "actual harm" to someone considering suicide.
ITV News has attempted to speak to Anatomicals and Urban Outfitters for response to Flynn's comments.
